A Year In Review

It’s nearly 2017.  Can you believe it?

I suppose this time of year puts people in a reflective mood.  Last week I spent a little bit of time looking back on the last twelve months.  There were some tough times, but there were good times as well.  Here are just a few of my personal memories.

The Living Stone Church

First Baptist Church of Woodlawn is now a ministry partner with The Living Stone church in Denver, Colorado. Click on the link for more information on the church. Go to their FB page or website and send them a note of encouragement!

New Life Group Semester Under Way

Fall Semester launched on August 28 2016. We will have meetings on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings as well as a Ladies group meeting during the day on Tuesday, a Mens group meeting on Tuesday and an Adult group meeting on Thursday. Dates and locations can be found at under the Life Group tab. Choose the one that fits your schedule and join us

We know from God’s word, that we were not meant to walk through life alone. Throughout the book of Acts, the early church did life together. Community is something that God intended for us to have to be able to express love for one another, exhort one another, and to even suffer with one another.  The idea of community can encapsulate a lot of things. Some people see community as the group of fiends they hang out with on weekends, or perhaps the neighbors that live around them. Many people find community with the people who have similar interests or hobbies. All of these are true, however, as Christ followers, the bible calls us to a deeper form of community.

Thought For The Week

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? James 2:14 (ESV)

The Book of James is probably the oldest book of the New Testament, written perhaps as early as A.D. 45, before the first council of Jerusalem in A.D. 50. James was the half-brother of Jesus and, according to scripture sis not become a believer until after the resurrection. Tradition has it that James had a nickname, “Camel Knees.” I guess he was making up for lost time. James later became a Pastor in the city of Jerusalem.

Thought For The Week

Last week we talked briefly about disciples and discipleship. This week I want to go just a bit father into the woods we call Discipleship. No reason to be scared the woods is safe. We as disciples, should always be ready to give a testimony of the reason for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15) and disciple others to walk in the way that Jesus taught. According to scripture, being a Christian disciple involves personal growth. Have you been growing in your faith? If not, why? Our growth should be characterized by specific things. Here are some in no particular order:

Thought For The Week

Have you ever thought about what a disciple really is? As Christians we are to disciple others, we are to be a disciple and we are to go and make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18-20). Do you think it is fair to say we need to have a better than average understanding of what a disciple is if we are going to be one and make one? I do, so let’s take a quick look and not get too complicated…
